ARE EUROPE AND THE USA BECOMING DICTATORSHIPS?
It happened across Europe in the 1930”s.
Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Russia all took the road to dictatorship. We have all heard the names: Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Salazar and Stalin.
We know from modern history that a world war was fought between democratic countries and some of these dictatorships.
It also happened in Asia where the Japanese, under their Emperor Hirohito, who was a dictator, attacked the Americans in Hawaii. This act brought the Americans into the Second World War.
Even in China, there was constant fighting between a dictatorship under the command of a general called Chiang Kai-shek and the Communist Party, which defeated him, there was dictatorship on both sides.
Whenever, social problems, especially economic problems, confront a society, there is almost an instinctive need to revert back to the childhood solution to all problems: “Let “Father” lead us!”
Relying on Daddy to solve all the problems is instinctive, and best of all—it is simple.
We don’t have to think. We don’t have to wonder which road to take. We don’t have to worry: Who is good? Who is bad? Daddy will solve all those problems.
All we have to do is obey him.
Today, we are seeing a regression to the eternal childhood state of letting our father pick the road and make our decisions.
In the USA, for example, we hear about the multitude of problems that Obama has solved or will solve.
Our health is under control. We will have no worries about who will treat us, how much it will cost or if it will be successful.
But, of course, if we don’t agree, or don’t pay the fees for our health solutions, we will go to jail.
When we travel, our security is in the hands of a perfect group of engineers and technicians.
The Transportation Security Administration will ensure that our plane is not bombed and that no terrorist will be on our flight or our railroad train armed with anything more dangerous than a handkerchief.
Of course, we must submit to personal searches, remove our shoes and get x-rayed…or, we go to jail.
Yesterday, it was reported in the news, that a teacher was so convinced of the notion that Obama was the new dictator that she warned a student: “If you say something disrespectful about President Obama you could be arrested.”
She obviously believed this, and thought that she was protecting the student against a tough daddy.
EUROPE
In Greece, where the economic situation is getting desperate, the public had an election.
The Greeks threw out their old time democratic parties and instead elected the Golden Dawn.
Here is an excerpt from the Associated Press:
“Twenty-one members of Golden Dawn were sworn into Greece’s Parliament on Thursday, making it arguably the most far-right party to enter a European national legislature since Nazi-era Germany.”
“Europe’s financial crisis is changing the tone across the continent, with frustrated voters turning to extremists on both the right and left. None seem as extreme as Golden Dawn, whose leaders claim that the Nazis did not use gas chambers to kill death camp inmates during the Holocaust. The party — which won 7 percent of the vote in a May 6 election — says it wants to rid Greece of immigrants and plant landmines along the border with Turkey”
Across Europe the extreme Right and Left Wing parties are finding increasing public support.
THE UNDERLYING MECHANISM
Countries are run from the bottom up. Not from the top down.
There are always potential dictators hanging around Universities and public buildings, hoping for the day that people will call them.
But, until the public is frightened about their future in terms of their jobs, their food, their lodging, the public prefers innocuous leadership.
But, when the future looks scary, then the Public looks for individuals who can reassure them in simple, straightforward terms that they need not worry. All will be well.
When this happens, the supporting group of friends and money interests of the potential dictator go into action. They spin the million words of propaganda that further frightens the public and makes them believe that He and only He, the Great Father can lead them out of the swamp.
And, of course, He demands obedience!
It happened before. Is it happening again?
