HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE
Tiger Woods, the infamous golfer, has brought Human Growth Hormone back to the front burner of the world’s newspapers. His Canadian physician, was caught and arrested trying to bring Human Growth Hormone into the U.S. to treat famous athletes.
Here is the news release from the New York Post:
BUFFALO — A Canadian doctor whose high-profile clients have included Alex Rodriguez and Tiger Woods was charged Tuesday with bringing unapproved drugs into the United States and unlawfully treating pro athletes.
Dr. Anthony Galea of Toronto, who is known for using a blood-spinning technique designed to speed recovery from injuries, is accused of injecting at least one current National Football League player with Actovegin, a calf’s blood derivative which is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and providing a retired player with human growth hormone after his playing days had ended.
A criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Buffalo charges Galea with smuggling, unlawful distribution of HGH, introducing an unapproved drug into interstate commerce, conspiring to lie to federal agents and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
Galea, who is not authorized to work in the United States, is accused of repeatedly entering the country from 2007 to 2009 to treat professional athletes from Major League Baseball, the NFL and Professional Golfers’ Association, U.S. Attorney William Hochul said.
During that time, he billed three football players about $200,000, Hochul said.
WHAT IS HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE?
Human Growth Hormone, (HGH), is a complex protein produced by the Pituitary Gland, the Master Gland of the body, located in the center of the brain.
PITUITARY GLAND
The Pituitary Gland produces the hormones that stimulate the endocrine glands of the body to produce secondary hormones such as Thyroid Hormones, Steroid Hormones, Sex Hormones, etc.
Without Human Growth Hormone children cannot grow and remain short their entire lives. HGH stimulates the growth of muscle, bone and tissue. It thereby allows the infant to grow into an adult.
In medicine, the use of HGH is restricted to helping those children who lack this hormone and those few adults who have a severe deficiency. It is NOT PERMITTED to be used by athletes or elderly people to grow larger muscles!
Or, to reverse aging!
GUESS WHAT?
Since HGH does increase muscle mass, and does increase strength, and does increase performance, star athletes with large quantities of money (such as Tiger Woods) pay enormous sums to crooked doctors to get injections of HGH.
Unfortunately, there are serious side effects of the use of HGH on adults. These side effects include, but are not limited to, diabetes, heart disease, gigantism (Acromegly) and high blood pressure.
Since HGH can easily produce serious side effects, medical societies across the world forbid its use for unnecessary treatment, such as, becoming a star golfer with a strong desire for females.
We all know that most people with unusual quantities of money, ignore laws that impede their desires.
TIGER WOODS AND BICEPS
(Does that look like a normal biceps?)
These rich people find unscrupulous doctors across the world who give them what they want for a high price.
OTHER METHODS FOR GAINING MUSCLE
For those people who do not have the monetary resources of star athletes, gaining additional muscle mass is not impossible.
The first key to muscle mass is Protein. The second key is exercising with weights. (Exercising with weights is called Resistance Training because the weights resist the contraction of the muscles.)
Most governments and health advisory bodies recommend 70 grams of protein daily for the average weight individual. I think that 2 grams per kilo of weight is not excessive. However, people with kidney disease must consult their physician, because protein break-down products (called urea) are cleared through the kidney.
Protein is available in all meat, milk and many vegetables. Manufacturers sell it in powder and liquid form.
EXERCISE
Exercise is the difficult part of muscle building.
I go to the health club about five times a week, and I watch the weight lifters hang around their machines for hours, chatting with their friends, laughing, and, every so often, exercising. This is fine if you have unlimited time.
I don’t, and most people with jobs do not. This means that if time is important, exercising has to be done intensely and quickly. If you exercise quickly, the resistance training turns into an aerobic event!
MINIMUM TRAINING SESSIONS
Whoever wants to build strength must exercise at least every other day.
Exercising every day, using different techniques, is probably the ideal form of exercise. In the days when mankind lived in the forest, living was exercise and that went on continuously.
ARGININE AND ORNITHINE
For those who want to increase their muscle mass rapidly, there are two amino acids which have been studied by medical scientists, and appear to have that effect.
These two amino acids are: Arginine and Ornathine. They work by releasing Nitric Oxide which opens up blood vessels and increases the supply of blood to the muscles.
They can be bought anywhere as individual amino acids or they are also found in the protein powders sold at all health stores. I think they are beneficial, but, definitely not crucial to muscle building.
SUMMARY
Human Growth Hormone is like illicit drugs: it produces a result, but at a very high price, which can be deadly. Anyone interested in improving their health and strength need simply eat a good diet with sufficient quantities of protein, exercise or participate in a sport on a daily basis, and they will see excellent results.
