NO ONE MAN
In the New York Times, we see many op-ed articles and blog posts, demanding that President Obama perform various miracles such as eliminating Alzheimer’s Disease. This puerile (juvenile) type of begging, implying that one man can perform miracles, demeans any periodical that publishes it.
Throughout the history of mankind, no one man has ever accomplished a social act. There have been less than 100 geniuses who have discovered the great theories of science and philosophy. But these men did not solve social problems, such as poverty, war and disease.
Solving a social or medical problem, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, requires the dedicated work of thousands of specialists over long periods of time.
Perhaps once per century, out of the world population, a true genius will emerge and present an idea that can be elaborated and tested for its logic and illumination. The only known genius in the last two centuries was Albert Einstein. His insight and mathematical formulas have been examined and tested for over one century, and have been found to be valid.
In the area of the Social Sciences we can read Thomas Malthus and then the ancient Greeks Plato and Aristotle. None of their great logical revelations persuaded any group or country to change their ways.
Discovery in the Physical Sciences requires an Hypothesis, a Mathematical Formulation, and then years of testing in the realm of reality.
Leadership of millions of people by a charismatic and convincing orator has, always, in the history of Mankind, led to social disaster. Looking back over the last two thousand years, we see Hitler, Stalin, Queen Elisabeth and Caesar–each one leading their populations to ultimate failure.
Today, for example, the New York Times, a newspaper that presents the views of only one political party, attempts to shore up the current American leader by pretending he can perform miracles. Certainly, in France there is a newspaper shoring up Sarkozy, in Italy a newspaper shoring up Berlusconi and in Russia a newspaper shoring up Putin.
But, in reality, only the people of these countries can do anything positive, through years of hard work.
The best example is Chairman Mao and China. Mao is glorified by the Chinese Communist Party as a form of Deity. Yet, without the hard work and perseverance of a billion Chinese people, Mao would be a joke.
If we look at South America, Africa and the Middle East, we see no deities.
Why? Because the people in these areas are indifferent to solving their social problems.
There is no “One Man” solution to any social problem and only very rarely to scientific problems. But, due to the persistent desire for betterment amongst the billions that inhabit this Planet, there are always many pretenders.
