SUICIDE IS RELATED TO INTELLIGENCE
In a huge study in Sweden, medical scientists discovered that men with lower I.Q.’s had a higher rate of suicide, than their brothers with higher I.Q.’s. It is well known that men commit more suicide than women, even though women will make more attempts at self destruction than men.
This study which included 1, 109, 475 men born in Sweden from 1950 to 1976, whose intelligence was measured during early adulthood, is the largest of its kind. It is 7 times larger than any other study of attempted or completed suicide.
The study was published in the British Medical Journal on June 4th., 2010. Men with psychosis, severe mental disease, were intentionally omitted from the study, because suicide in psychotic males has no relationship to their intelligence. The lead author of the Study was Dr. G. David Batty, Medical Research Council Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow, Scotland.
BEST STUDY OF SUICIDE
We note that this is the most serious study, done by an extremely reputable group, of this relationship between I.Q. and suicide in the world today.
Sweden is the country which has had the highest number of men committing suicide in the entire world. The social mores and the weak family and weak religious social life in Sweden is well known.
METHODS OF COMMITTING SUICIDE
According to the published study, The most common method of attempted suicide was poisoning by solid or liquid (1.3%), followed by injury with a sharp object (0.1%); other poisoning (0.04%); hanging, strangulation, or suffocation (0.04%); jumping or falling from a high place (0.03%); injury from firearms or explosives (0.02%); and drowning or submersion (0.01%).
It is to be understood that these suicides were Attempted Suicides or Non-fatal suicides, so serious that the men were admitted to hospital. Any attempt at self-destruction is classified as Suicide with the entire group then sub-divided into Attempted Suicide or Completed Suicide.
Most Attempted Suicides use poisoning as a means of attempting suicide. Completed Suicides are generally accomplished with firearms. The study group considered all relevant factors, such as Socio-Economic Group, Education, Health factors such as Blood Pressure or Obesity, and only the IQ had a definite relationship with the number who had attempted suicide.
PERCENT OF TOTAL MEN
Of all the men studied over 17 thousand or 1.6 percent of the Swedish men were admitted to hospital at least once for attempted or completed suicide. This quantity may not seem large, but in this young age group, it is one of the leading causes of death.
REASONS FOR ATTEMPTING SUICIDE
Analysis of the I.Q. testing showed that REASONING, or ABILITY TO SOLVE A PROBLEM was the factor in which these men had the weakest results. Following Reasoning, the next weakest area was vocabulary. These men did very little reading as evidenced by their low scores in vocabulary.
The authors concluded that the inability to reason left the men with no other solution apart from suicide. Also, these men, due to their low IQ also had low self esteem. The combination was fatal.
OTHER REASONS
Almost all studies of suicide show that a weak Religious Life and weak Family relationships, are foremost in the causes of suicide.
People who live in a culture with strong religious beliefs or who have strong family ties, rarely attempt to solve their problems by killing themselves.
Unfortunately, in the modern world, especially in countries such as Sweden, Religion is becoming a smaller and smaller part of a full life. Material objects such as cars and computers, and physical pleasures such as eating, are displacing the spiritual support that religion and family provide.
CONCLUSION
Problem solving is the essence of human activity. Physical prowess is no longer the solution to the apparent paradoxes that confront every human being throughout his or her existence.
The inability to solve problems leads to depression, and depression in turn, leads to suicide. Society is making such problems more difficult for the weaker mind to solve, because society is running away from honesty and reality, in favor of sophisticated mistruths.
Although, in the short run, men who find themselves incapable of solving their problems may turn to suicide; in the long run, society itself is moving towards Societal Suicide, by choosing goals that benefit only the rich and powerful.

[...] I kind of totally agree with their conclusion, so basically if you want to read, you can go there. [...]
I am a 16 year old girl and I attempted suicide 2 years ago 2 months after my birthday and I have strong family ties and strong releigious beliefs i do not agreewith what was said in this article. I gives false information because people commit suicide on a daily basis because of a girlfriend or boyfriend dumping them or being bullied at school and suicide is caused by many other things also. Being bullied at school was my reason for attempting suicide because I couldn’t take everything everyone was saying to me it gets to you after a while hearing it everyday people picking on you just because they think they can it’s right and it’s not fair. I mean for some people it’s not their fault that they are in the current state in which they live in now.
this information that was given was extremely brief, and, did not rule out any reasons why people attempt suicide. it simply says, that in general, people who have strong family ties, or religious beliefs are less likely to turn to suicide than those who are not as “connected” to family, or a religion.
