WOMEN POWER
India’s Parliament just approved a bill to reserve one third of all Parliamentary seats for women. In India’s town and villages, one third of all council seats are reserved for women. Pakistan and Afghanistan have rules requiring one third of representatives to be women.
THE WORLD
Across the world, today, we are seeing more and more women coming into power as heads of Governments. Although the list is not as long as the list of men leaders, the important fact to note is that the trend towards women leaders is accelerating.
One half century ago, apart from functionary Queens, there were no female leaders of government. Obviously, a new force has appeared in the political landscape.
NO WARS
Men, like male lions, are very good for fighting. The frequent major wars of the past are no longer present. The only significant area of warfare is in the Middle East, where the U.S. and Israelis continue to hound the Muslims. It will be noted that no women has been suggested for president of either of these two countries.
In the rest of the world, women are quickly coming into power. The major reason for this is Education.
EDUCATED WOMEN
In all the major countries of the world, higher education is attracting more women than men. There is no genetic reason why men should be more intelligent than women. The genes for intelligence do not reside in the sex genes. Therefore, men and women should have equal intelligence.
The fact that males are more aggressive does not make them more successful in the field of education. In fact, many males, because of their aggression fail to tolerate the long years of training required for higher education.
We are seeing more and more women training to be surgeons in the field of medicine. Surgery was the one place in medicine that was considered to be a male domain. In the U.K., a surgeon is not called Doctor but rather, Mister. Many women in the U.K. are now being called Mister.
THE ECONOMY
It is well known that women control the largest share of the purchasing power of the world. Of the 18 trillion dollars of global spending, women control 12 trillion and that number is rising. Because women have been relegated to household tasks men defer to women in the purchase of goods.
This deference leads to power over the purse, a more important role than the earning of income. Marketing people are aware of this, and we see marketing plans defer to female desires in purchasing.
INDIA AND CHINA
These two major BRIC countries are not chauvinistic. They are only interested in gaining world power in the area of the global economy. As a consequence, they educate all comers, whether male or female. Historically, both of these countries held women in low esteem.
It is well known that female infanticide was, and still is, prevalent in both countries. Yet, today, due to the need to increase the productivity of its populations, both countries have made a dramatic effort to educate women. Today, however, we are seeing large numbers of women graduating from doctoral degree levels in both countries.
THE U.S. AND EUROPE
Women in the U.S. and Europe have had equal opportunities for education for the last half century. They are rapidly overtaking men in all areas of higher education.
